Trout on display at Paradise Valley Springs

We have the following types of Trout on display in our Trout pools - from small fingerlings right through to large old timers.

Rainbow trout were introduced to New Zealand from North America in approximately 1883. They adapted extremely well to our conditions and anglers from all over the world come to fish for these magnificent fighting Rainbows.

Brown trout are New Zealand’s largest trout and were introduced from Scotland.  Some can grow in excess of 10 kilos and will live up to 10-12 years.

Tiger trout are a cross between Brook trout and Brown trout. Their offspring cannot reproduce.

American Brook trout are actually a type of char.  Introduced in 1877, they have a distinctive white stripe on the leading edge of their fins.
